The forbidden Kyranides, another extremely rare magical document.

Supressed directly by the Vatican, as mentioned by the Author in this scanned text, the book rarely saw the light of day in any market, in any point of history.

Attributed directly to Hermes, the Kyranides teaches sympathetic magic and medicine. It is a practical theurgic manual: stones, plants, birds, fish, each with divine names, astrological correspondences, and ritual applications.

To the uninitiated, this text is just a bunch of recipes. It was written in such a way that it could only be powerful to the few, who truly understood.

The Author of this Work (from the 1600’s) does a much better job explaining the document and it’s history, in the introduction. Keep in mind these types of writings are not to be taken at face value alone, they have hidden deeper meanings and philosophies. This was written by Hermes, after all…

My personal “fun” theory is that Apollonios of Tyana may have had much to do with the Kyranides.

Apollonios was known to have written on talismans, correspondences, and the signatures of nature. The Kyranides shares the same worldview: stones, plants, and animals carry divine signatures that can be activated through names and ritual.

While there is no direct attribution to Apollonios in the surviving manuscripts, the Kyranides fits squarely within the tradition he represents. It is possible that fragments of his teaching were absorbed into the text, or that it was influenced by the same current he helped shape.

This is the absolute best scanned version you will ever find on the internet.

Enjoy.
